    Motherwell stumble to the bottom

Motherwell managed to lose to Hamilton and now lie at the bottom of the league table. The second half volley from substitute Boyd gave our rivals a lead they hardly deserved but some serious soul searching needs to be done in Stephen Robinson's squad. - External Link

I had a feeling we would lose today and sadly I was proved correct.

We have zero creativity in that team and for some bizarre reason, SR opts to bench Johnson in favour of Sammon and Main who patently cannot play together and offer little up front. It was obvious that Hamilton would come, sit in and play to keep us out and with us being incapable of breaking sides down, we were always going to struggle. That Robinson opted to hook Campbell early in the second half is utterly mental and it was that moment that he handed the game to Accies on a plate as they were able to get a foothold in the middle and they gained confidence from that. Their goal was a good strike but they also created the two best chances apart from that and missed a sitter in the last minute to make it 2-0.

The early signs for us are desperately worrying and if we are losing at home to sides like that then we need to be worried.

Losing at Easter Road (even getting tanked) is a sign you might not have a great season but it's not necessarily dangerous. Losing at home to Hamilton - whether we turn out ok or not - is a flashing warning sign in big red lights.

If we take 8/9 points from Hamilton and Livingston we will not be relegated. But the same also applies to them with us and we've just gifted three points away. Some serious thinking is needed followed by some serious action... preferably quickly.

Sammon and Main just isn't working. Even when headers are won from our hoofs up the park, there's little chance of them being tellingly directed. While Johnson sometimes gets himself into some ball - losing fankles by trying to be too fancy, he must surely be worth a place in the starting XI. Otherwise why is he here?
Two league games, no goals; speaks for itself. Getting Charles and Ryan back will help, but we could be in right trouble before they kick a ball again.

Its not as simple as that. Yes, they're not playing well, but the ammunition they're being fed is very poor indeed. They weren't given decent service yesterday.
