Good starts for Under 18 and Under 23 teams

It was good to see that the Under 18 team beat Charlton 1-0 in their first league game of the season on Saturday with Michael Fowler scoring the goal. This was a good win against Charlton who always do well at this level and finished second in thesouthern section last season.

Tonight the Under 23 team played their first league game against Cardiff, the game being played behind closed doors at Turf Moor. Heaton, Vydra, Long and Gibson all starting. They ran out winners by 4-1 with goals from Dan Agyei, Matěj Vydra, Tunde Bayode and Ali Koiki. It appears that Vydra set up two of the goals as well as scoring one himself.

Always love to report on victories at this level but it is early days yet.

Good to see Tom Heaton get through the full game, with Vydra and Gibson getting a chance to stretch their legs, maybe preparing for Thursday evening ?

Fair enough, which is why I spend more and more of my time watching Clitheroe, they actually don't mind their fans watching them play.

I always wonder why the club just cannot open the Bob Lord Stand. I'm sure the atmosphere created by say 600 fans, would help improve the players performances?

I wonder if it’s to stop opposition spies seeing them?
I doubt there would be 600 attending especially when games are often fixed at short notice.

Back in the day when we had a reserve team, Tuesday night would often see 500 or 600 season ticket holders in the Bob Lord Stand, but like sinkov observes, BFC no longer need the nuisance and bother of hosting fans.

This game was originally being played at Curzon Ashton but I believe it was changed at failry short notice for some reason, hence the decision to play behind closed doors.
