try turning it on holding down 'Command' and 'R' to see if it'll boot into recovery mode.

Don't think Kev is a Mac kind of expert, but he knows a man who can so to speak...
Have used him a couple of times for repairs to family computers,like others have said on here he's a good bloke. Tell him you're a magpie and he normally gives a discount...
