Redgates has gone now too Boro. Completely demolished a few weeks ago!

It was very remiss of me not to mentioned Deadbat and Rav. This site would not have been the same without them and for many on here they became the new Green Un on a Saturday night/ Sunday morning. I hold both in the highest regard and had meant to mention them in the OP. Apologies lads.

Cheers Boro! My bench from the cricket pavillion sits proudly in my garden with SU in the ironwork. I’m sure I kept Redgates in business in the early 70s with all the Subbuteo teams I bought from there. Cheers also to Sir John and the team of 71. You propose an excellent toast which I am only too happy to join you in.

So in case this is really it I wouldn’t like anything to happen without first posting a vote of thanks.

I was first introduced to Bladesmad in August 2009. In those days, whenever you logged on, night or day, there always seemed to be an intense discussion taking place between Darblade, SBT and Croatia with others joining in to give their views.

Paddy’s mockups were superb. Who can forget Megson as a donkey or Beattie as The Messiah. There were also some memorable threads including Quiffygate when a poster called Quiffy broke the news that we were about to sign James Beattie by saying Beattie had pulled up in a yellow Lamborghini at the petrol pump next to his Dad who asked him outright if he was signing - cue Bladesmad meltdown.

Then there was the the poster who broke the rumour about us being interested in Chris O’Grady (aka COG) by incorrectly listing his initials as COD. Cue a long thread full of fish puns and jokes.

That banter in the sites heyday was superb. There were some very witty posters and more than one reader said they had spat their morning coffee out whilst logging in and coming across a particularly funny post. We had a like button to show approval in those days. For some reason I always remember a thread where a new poster (ok it was me) asked people how they had chosen their tag names. Knowsnowt unexpectedly said his was because there was a chap who lived opposite called Nowt and he knew him!

There were tantrums and arguments (SBT v Woodward fan was worth the entrance money alone). Sadly we lost some very good posters to the Bramall Lane in the Sky and we sympathised, celebrated and supported fellow posters who notified us of divorces, engagements, births and illnesses. Someone once called it the Bladesmad family and they weren’t far wrong at times.

Gradually the site dwindled but was still entertaining with the BM regulars who have kept it going (you know who you are), but now it seems even they are off to pastures new.

Therefore it only really remains to offer my vote of thanks to the editor, mods and you the posters for everything that Bladesmad had to offer. In the words of a famous Blades midfielder ‘it’s been emotional’

Goodness me yes - Curtis. Wasn’t he he an ex pro footballer who went to live somewhere near Norwich but still kept an eye on the Blades. Sometimes made himself a bit unpopular with some of his views but always told it like he thought it was and could be quite knowledgable about football. Seem to think his daughter was a really good tennis player and that came to take up most of his time. He had a few interesting spats on here though which brings me to Len.......

A bit unpopular? Everyone loved to hate him!

I liked the way he didn't shirk an argument and told it how it is, however unpopular that made him. What you can't deny is that he was sheer entertainment value for everyone and I for one miss his contributions.

Would hate to see this place die. I've many lifelong friends through BM,to the extent I went to the World Cup in South Africa 2010 with some. Was with Dar, Bulmer and Gambling pre match today.
Redalways ablade,TT and Rod 3 other fantastic blokes it's my pleasure to know from here..

Herb/Ricky/Chronic; Ive tried to get back on S2 but to no avail. Only got barred for telling Geetarman/Top Cat to stop the trolling and the Walter Mitty stuff and not a swear word involved.
Until I maybe get back on I'll let my lifelong mate Topplayersalwaysleave take the pi ss. The fools think he's a pig; couldn't be further from the truth as you know Herb.
As long as BM exists I'll pop on and post. I wish all posters on here very sincere best wishes.
WABAW??? Course we f u ck ing well are!!!
