There's nothing wrong with Hampden, apart from the fact it's in Glasgow.

    It's a football stadium for f'uck sake.

I think some folk* just want something that has been built in the last 5 years max that gives you a view like you get on the telly.

There is when it's used as the venue for matches where it's going to be about half-full at best

Well don't use it for those games.

Such games have been successfully moved around the country for years.

My first ever Scotland game was at Pittodrie.

    B Clark
    S Jardine
    D Hay
    P Stanton
    M Buchan
    J Johnstone (J Hansen 79)
    B Bremner(C)
A Cropley (K Dalglish 48) his first cap
    E Gray
    S Murray
    J O`Hare

    1-0 Scotland v Belgium (o'hare 6 minutes)

    Attendance 36,500

Agreed , though I was thinking more of domestic semi-finals , than Scotland games.

A packed or even just well-filled stadium with the crowd split nearer to 50/50 will always make for a far better atmosphere and spectacle.

Hampden wasn't always used for semi finals.

I remember playing Celtic in a packed Dens Park, great atmosphere, so not even the semifinals against the gruesome twosome

As I understand it, the usage of Hamdung for all Scottish Cup semi-finals was an agreement made to the debenture holders who essentially bailed the SFA out 20 years ago with the last "refurb" (no laughing at the back).

However, now that the SFA own Hamdung, that in agreement is no longer valid, so for example, if Dundee were to play Kilmarnock in a Scottish Cup semi, there's nothing to stop it going ahead at Easter Road or Tynecastle.
