The travelling community differs depending what part of Scotland you are in in the borders it's predominately originally from Ireland with good bit of Romany thrown in .in the North it's the descendants of the foik that were kicked out of their Crofts and hit the road . In central Scotland up to Perth and Dundee it's a mixture of both but mainly Irish descendants. Unfortunately my experience of the Irish travellers are th at they are indeed a bunch of minkers although I wouldn't say that to their faces as in general they are hard as f uck

Minker = furrier .... someone who creates products from the skin/hide of animals .... not necessarily mink ... quite a skill actually if we accept we're talking beyond stickin a 'lucky' rabbit foot on a fυckin keyring!

Tinker = tinsmith .... someone who creates products from scrap metals ( tin/tin cans ... like pegs! ) .... prob less of a skill than the preserving, preparation and utilisation of animal skin, but nifty nonetheless ... and credit far credit's due ... years ahead of oor cooncil's recyclin' arrangements

You are right about tinker being a tinsmith but not about minkers. Ony minks (animals) in Scotland are from the States and escaped from the farms min.
