    Match Ratings v Newport

Oh dear....how do you rate players that are part of a team 92nd in the FL.....ouch

Fitz - Terrible kicking, 6 or 7 directly to their keeper, 4 or 5 into touch...if we are not going to win headers at the back, he needs to come and punch the ball.....2 great saves to keep us in it......4

Jones - Tried hard to get forward, as normal, not a great deal of defending because Newport were targeting Hewey....dreadful crossing of the ball and numerous hacks into touch....Nolan took him off because the crowd were cheering everytime he got the ball, and they knew he would lose it....3

Duffers - Dreadful error for their 2 nd goal, why oh why try to pass it back under pressure.....also, he and Brisley literally gifted the first and last goals to Newport by not challenging for free kicks and corners.....2.5

Brisley - No obvious errors but simply not winning headers at the back which is his job...3

Hewey - If I never see him at right back again, it will be a relief...Newport were all over that wing because he is weak there.....gifted the corner for the first goal when it was easier to boot it out.....aimless punts down the wing and into the box.....2

Thomas - Great player, worked hard trying to get back and defend....5

Husin - Slowly turning into a good player, calm composed and starting to spray the ball around.....5.5

Vaughan - He must wonder what the hell he has signed up for....the back 4 are collapsing behind him but what the hell can he do, he's not a defender.....5

Enzio - Wow, oh wow....yet again my MOM....pace to burn, great crosses for the 2 goals.....7.5

Stead - Worked hard as normal, trying to feed Hemmings into the spaces....took a horrible knock....6

Hemmings - Superb effort up front, chased everything and frightened the life out of Newport for 20 minutes....deserved his goal from Enzio's cross....7

Subs - Kellett looked tasty coming on...6, Crawford looks like a decent prospect.....5.5, Dennis comes on to score from another Enzio cross...5.5

Summary - Defensive shambles for the last 70 minutes, nobody is picking up the runners, nobody is marking in the box for set pieces, Nolo must be starting to doubt his future surely....he needs a new decent captain in the middle, Duffers has lost it and is dragging everyone else down around him IMO...Brisley was bailing out Duffers last season but he looks disinterested now....we need Hall back, quickly.

I'm sure others might see it differently but this is my take on tonight's game.

If that useless blob of a defender is anywhere near the pitch on Saturday , Nolan has to go!!! Duff by name, Duff by nature.

I also haven't heard it mentioned, that the Duffers drop in form, which has dragged Brisley with him IMO.....has coincided with Nolo telling Charlie and Stall that he hadn't yet decided who was going to be the new club captain....before game one?

Has something happened in pre-season that we are not aware of....maybe he was thinking of giving it to Vaughan or Stead as they are the only other two experienced central players?

Fitzsimons - apart from one save (the other basically hit his leg as he was falling) did nothing to inspire confidence. Was nowhere for the 1st and 3rd. Kicking poor. 3/10 at best

Jones - One of his worst displays going forward, and as he doesn't tend to bother defending there wasn't anything to shout about. 3/10

Duffy - Back to his flat-footed self this season. Gifted his customary goal a game. 2/10

Brisley - Seems to have been dragged down to Duffy's level. Failed with basics, kicked in to touch at will when simple passes were available. 3/10

Hewitt - Never was a right back, defensively naive. Distribution was not of a professional footballer. 4/10

Thomas - Showed good touch and willingness to create but offered no protection for Jones. 6/10

Vaughan - Completely incompatible with League 2 football. Way off the pace of the game. Maybe not his fault but a poor display. 4/10

Husin - Flatters to deceive. Wasteful in possession and anonymous in defence. 4/10

Bouldewijn - Similar to Thomas but created the 1st goal really well. 6.5/10

Stead - Feel sorry for him, works his arse off where others won't. Was working with nothing and fell victim to some questionable refereeing. Faded badly second half. 5/10

Hemmings - Finally scored, can't help but feel he could offer more if he didn't spend all his time with his back to goal. 6/10

Crawford - Added energy and a tackle to the midfield. Please start next game. 6/10

Dennis - Added threat when the ball actually got near him. Scored. 6/10

Kellett - Has looked a handy player whenever he's had time on the pitch. 6/10

I only have Ifollow to go by but i totally agree with those markings.... Jones looks like the player that got roasted at Coventry last season but lasted almost 90 minutes before being substituted!!! Kellet looked lively in his cameo.... Stead looks to be badly injured so KN has to start with Dennis now, Brisley and Duffy.... Jesus Christ, Bris was marginally better tonight but my god that aint saying a lot.... both need to be benched and fast, we are bottom of this horrible division and judging by tonight we aint moving anywhere soon... depressing times ahead for us Notts fans

Yep, a thank you to everyone who offers their player ratings.

There is no right or wrong rating, but the more that are given the clearer the picture becomes to those who didn't see the game.

    Ratings from the AntiClough

A bit late but nobody else did them so here goes.......errrrr.....oh yes they did!

Fitzsimons 5 - We're letting in goals for fun. One very good save and OK kicking & distribution. But not a commanding keeper
Hewitt 4 - You'd have hoped 2 years in midfield would have improved his touch and passing in a position you get a bit more time. No sign of that, very disappointing
Duffy 4 - A schoolboy error that lost the game
Brisley 5 - Plays like someone waiting to be replaced.
Jones 3 - If his game was a golf round he wouldn't have seen the fairway once. OB all game long
Thomas 5 - Not contributing enough. I can't remember him in a crossing position
Vaughan 5 - Doesn't look good when we're under pressure. Outplayed by Dolan and Bakinson
Husin 6 - Did better when Vaughan went off
Boldewijn 7 - Our best player. Made both goals, but not helped by the oppostion knowing exactly where he's going to get the ball and controlling how often thanks to Nolan's stupid rigid formation.
Stead 4 - Why are you doing this to us, Nolan? (Comment thanks to Dale Dobach, Step Brothers)
Hemmings 5 - Nice finish, but overall involvement not there

    Subs
Crawford 6 - Looks good, maybe too good not to play, preferably in a 4-3-3
Dennis 6 - Off the mark for Notts. Cool finish, not a gimme
    Kellett - Not enough time

Overall, we looked like a team without ideas or a pattern of play. They were much better. 2-2 would have been a steal.

Thanks for the C + P. Didn't see the thread, already on page 2
Only the 3rd set, so worth posting
No surprise re: Duffy, Jones and Hewitt, averaging about 3/10 each!
