Transfer spend and playing staff stats last 9 years

A quick check of our net transfer spend against transfers out since 10/11 to 18/19 show that we have spent around 33M more than we got from transfers out.

A check on our playing staff since 10/11 to 18/19 which includes all loanees shows an overall loss of 13 players.

The biggest transfer spend occurred in 16/17 when we spent 24M in excess of our small transfer out fee.

I guess you could argue that a net spend of 33M is against 1 x promotion; 1 x relegation (with para payments). 1 x promotion and two seasons in the Prem with last year netting 120M.

That puts us miles ahead financially in my view.

So would it be safe to say then that our total money in is approx. £430 Million (not including Para payments), and a total spend of approx. £33 Million for transfers ?

Take the money out for wages, Gawthorpe, Turf Moor update and sundries and what do we have ?

A shed full of money making us look good on paper but well adrift on the playing field

We are not well adrift on the playing field though. We are probably two players short of where SD wants to be and that will be addressed in January.

I'm torn between thinking if you'd make a good comedienne, or a Politician BT

Lol BT does a Grayson Perry - the mind boggles.

Dyche wanted 5 players in, we got 3. Mourinho wanted 6, he got none. Do the maths.

The difference is Utd already have a well stocked squad and probably don't need to sign players to finish top 4 (they actually signed 3 players including a very good striker in Fred), we are still short after 3 signings.

I think its worth repeating BT that 2 of the 3 new players were forced on us (Goalkeeper and Centreback) due to circumstances of late non-signing by incumbent and two unexpected injuries.

Where are the the real transfers that we needed before this?

Saying we got 3 is misleading when 2 were absolutely necessary in much more recent times.

But the 5 we needed actually turns into 1.

    And that's very poor.

We still don't have Brady and D4 so the pain and problem is far more acute.

January window? It's all over by then.

You're having a laugh BT, remember that season we went with just Marney and Jones at CM, bit risky but not to worry, it'll be addressed in the January window. January came and went and it was still just Jones and Marney, one week into February and Marney was out for the season, we have just one recognised CM, and we get relegated. We weren't well adrift then, just the one player, but it got us relegated. Once again our recruitment team failed to do it's job, how much did that failure which led to relegation cost us ?
