There’s no I in team. It’s not about the defence or the forwards it’s about the results the team obtain.

After Yates left we became a mid table team rather than an automatic promotion team statically.

Yates was a major influence, accept that and move on.

I agree entirely with you.

What I don't agree with is that when Yates left the defence became awful - the whole team was worse but I believe that the attacking suffered more than the defending did.

The defence were worse but we just got lucky.

In that case, we'd be really happy if the defence was strengthened, played really well but let 5 goals in, as we could say, "Well we were just unlucky"

A defence is measured on how many goals it concedes, just as an attacker is measured on how many they score.
