    Winkler sez

Andreas Winkler is looking for his side to be more clinical in the final third ahead of Saturday’s visit to Coventry City.

Barnsley, unbeaten in Sky Bet League One so far this season, are the joint-second top scorers in the Football League – behind Peterborough United and level with West Bromwich Albion – but a number of missed chances against Walsall at the weekend proved costly as the Saddlers left Oakwell with a point.

“We’ve been working on finishing in training and to create the pressure of a competitive match in training,”said Winkler.

“We are happy that we’re creating lots of chances in games, but we need to be more ruthless in front of goal and this is what we’re working on. Once we improve our self-confidence we will be more clinical.”

Coventry have enjoyed a steady start to their return to the third tier, with two wins and two draws – including a 2-1 victory last time out against Oxford United.

The Sky Blues have registered four different scorers in the league this campaign, all of whom have found the net once as Mark Robins’ side sit 12th in the table – directly behind fellow promoted teams Accrington Stanley and Luton Town.

Last season’s top scorer Marc McNulty departed for Reading in the summer, but Winkler insists the Reds will be prepared for the threat Saturday’s hosts will pose without the 28-goal hitman.

“We know their strengths; they’re good from set pieces and also in their build up play, so they can mix it up,” continued the Reds’ Assistant Head Coach. “We have to improve some parts of our game and our style of football, if you look at last Saturday.

“We have watched their previous matches this season to be aware of their strengths and what their formation is. They got promoted and have some very good players, so I’m expecting a tough match.

“I know we haven’t won there for 95 years, so it will be a tough match. If we can re-write history it’d be nice, but it’s more important to me, the squad and the gaffer to be unbeaten.”

Andreas Winkler confirmed this morning that Brad Potts is touch & go for Sat at Coventry. Ryan Hedges is back in training but won’t be ready this week. Zeki Fryers is doing some light training. Cauley Woodrow hasn’t trained this week but is expected to train next week

Admits it was very close to Conor Chaplin coming to BarnsleyFC rather than the Sky Blues.

AW said they’re very confident with the squad they have at Barnsley and will work with the current players until January.

Confirmed no contact with Adam Hammill.

    Computer sez NO Ziles--

    too old

    no sell-on value

The fact that he would make a decent squad player in the Third Division is irrelevant. Al say it ageean-- this squad is paper thin.
