I think after the council had administrators (forced upon them) in place they managed to get the debts down, my worry is that when they are left to their own devices they will adopt the socialist mantra and "spend, spend, spend" until they are close to broke and new interventions are required
I'd hope that the Ofsted presence, with set guidelines, visits and publicly available reports will help to keep the services well directed and accountable, just the same as any other regulated service. The fact that each social worker had between 30-40 children's cases to deal with is horrific and suggests that over spending (at least on this part of the service) was not the problem.

Any drain on resources will have a " knock on effect " on other services even if some of the cost has come from the Council reserves.
Money well spent in my opinion, that is if if lessons have been learnt and children don't get to suffer CSE.
