Rafa made his first tactical substitution on 69 minutes, his second on 79. Remember he had been forced to make one change at half time due to the injury to Lascelles.
Hughton's first was on 71 minutes, his second on 76 (and he got stick for bringing on Locadia, who is seen as the South Coast's Joselu!).

It was very similar in the game against Fulham - late subs and the same moans from the pboros ("If he made the changes earlier we would have won 10-2 and had 50 shots at goal").

In fact the most often-heard complaint heard from the Brighton's pboros is that Hughton has no idea about how to use his substitutes. Also that he sets up too defensively at home and Albion have too few efforts at goal.

Rafa brought on Muto, who has a similar strike rate to Rondon.
Is Muto like for like with Ritchie?
My mate's a West Brom fan and, while he likes Rondon, he would never describe him as a great striker.
I have no idea why Rafa did not play Rondon on Saturday and, importantly, nor do you.
He is not the first player to come back from a long-haul international game and not be ready to play on the Saturday.
I do know from my friend that he missed a lot of last season due to a bad injury - presumably why he is at SJP only on loan.
Why was he on the bench, you may ask?
Well, please address that to the Fat Controller, as he is the one who ultimately decides the strength of our squad.
Clearly we had two players on the bench who were not fit enough to come on and play 10 minutes with no chance of bringing on another sub if they broke down.

In any case, my original point still stands. You are calling Hughton a better manager than Rafa based on the fact that Brighton came back from 2-0 down and Newcastle didn't.

I repeat - Brighton were already back in those two games BEFORE Hughton made any substitutions.
Against teams of way lower quality than Arsenal.

More importantly, there are a number of Brighton fans who have been attacking Hughton for the past two years, accusing him constantly of being too defensive, tactically inept and making the wrong and late substitutions.
After the defeat to Watford on the opening day they were screaming for him to be sacked.

Ring any bells? Sound familiar?
Maybe you should join forces with them and pool your bile for your respective managers.

Don't get me wrong. I think Hughton is an excellent manager,.
I was his neighbour in Hove for a short time and he's as nice a bloke as people say.
But there are plenty of people down here who trot out exactly the same criticisms of him as you do of Rafa.

And please leave out the Geordie-bashing.
Despite all the ****e we get thrown at us by your hero Ashley, 52,000 still pay their hard-earned cash to cheer the lads on.
If some of them have had enough after 90 minutes of total dross, then who can blame them for nipping off for a quick pint or 12 to deaden the pain?
