For many years I worked with a gay man is best comment was if you are gay get on with it stop preaching that you are different & get that fecking chip off your shoulder.Great bloke.
Looking for a fight are we patty.
Poor gay, black, Jewish female people are oppressed because they are poor not because of their other characteristics and therefore they fall within the group IBS is concerned with.
Oppression is not an essential characteristic of any of the other groups if they are not also poor.
In the UK in what sense are the following in any way "oppressed"? Ruth Davidson, Stephen Fry, Matthew Parris, Ian McKellen (gay), Lenny Henry, Idris Elba, Naomi Campbell, Paul Bouteng, Trevor Phillips (black), Ralph and David Gold, Jack Cohen, Sir Charles Clore, Baron Danny Finkelstein OBE (Jews).
So the essential component of oppression in modern Britain is poverty and arguably disability. Being gay, black, Jewish or female is totally irrelevant.
Up until reading this I always thought the best comment from a gay bloke ever was from a mate of mine who is gay and he said "I'm a postman not a postbox"
Monty's a bit touchy today....
Oh goodness the gang is assembling. If you read this thread from the beginning and read it honestly you will see very clearly that Patty and raging were deliberately provocative throughout. My observation on poverty and oppression seems perfectly reasonable but raging just wants to start trouble.
