    The Magpie Group Newsletter #3

Welcome to the third edition of our newsletter, where there’s really only one place to start…

Sports Direct @ St. James’ Park Protest

Saturday afternoon saw our largest and loudest protest against Mike Ashley’s ownership of Newcastle United yet. There were banners, songs, and a clear sense of unity on display from everybody involved.

Our intention with this protest was to bring it to the Club’s doorstep and to spread the word about the Club Shop now being an entity of Sports Direct, which is run for the benefit of Sports Direct rather than for the benefit of Newcastle United FC.

We believe we got our message across and we’re happy to report that the authorities were pleased with how everyone conducted themselves. Peaceful protest is one of the biggest weapons we have and there’s a hell of a lot more to come on this front.

If you were there with us outside St. James’ at 2.15pm on Saturday then we can’t thank you enough, and we hope you enjoyed being part of the demonstration. If you look closely enough, you might spot yourself in this gallery of images from the day.

2018 Sports Direct Annual General Meeting

We also had a number of representatives at Sports Direct’s AGM in London last week, including Andy Ashwell, who penned this excellent account of his experience. It’s a pretty damning piece and is well worth a few minutes of your time.

To summarise; Ashley turned up, despite saying he wouldn’t be there (he lied again if you can believe that), the meeting lasted less than 15 minutes, and there was no opportunity for anyone on the floor to ask questions of the company and its directors.

The next day Ashley took to the press to call Sports Direct shareholders “backstabbers”, and to helpfully remind everyone that he doesn’t care a jot about NUFC with this line: “The people within the Sports Direct group, including House of Fraser, are and will continue to be my number one priority.”

Were these the actions of a man seeking to drive the share price (even further) down ahead of a return to private ownership? Or was it just a spoiled bully spitting his dummy out because his mates Keith (Hellawell) and Simon (Bentley) have been forced off the board? We’ll let you decide, but the pressure might be starting to tell...

    Next Open Meeting

The date for our next open meeting is now confirmed as Wednesday 3rd October 2018, with a start time of 6.30pm (doors at 6pm). It will again take place upstairs at the Newcastle Labour Club, and we expect it will be standing room only this time.

The earlier kick-off time is due to the number of speakers attending, with the worlds of journalism, politics, and (most importantly) football all represented. Work is ongoing to add to the guest list, and more information will be made available soon.

As we said last week, we’d love it if those of you who came to the first open meeting were with us again. We’d really love it if you brought along an extra person or two this time, though, as the more people we have contributing their ideas the better. Saving and sharing the above image would be a huge help on that front too!

    First Open Meeting Suggestions

Speaking of ideas, we’ve collated all of them from the audio recording, the boxes, and the email account, and we’ve ended up with almost 100 suggestions from the first open meeting. Thanks to all of you who took the time to raise something with us!

We’re now actively discussing the ideas and putting them into categories, as our intention is to present a wide selection of them to you at the next open meeting. This will give you the chance to weigh in on which ones you think are worth pursuing.

As always, we’re more than happy to take any suggestions you have through email (contact@themagpiegroup.co.uk), Facebook, and Twitter, so don’t be shy!

    Let’s keep this going,

    The Magpie Group

Our truth is stronger than their lies. If you love United, stand united.

Well I’ll be there. Few more from the board?

Ashley stated that he would not be attending the SD AGM but this was just a ploy to throw journalists and the long line of Ashley Haters off his trail.

He then started bleating to the press that he had been stabbed in the back

Reminds me of a poster on here.

    Interesting read.

I saw on their twitter that the SD share price is at it's all time lowest, or something along those lines?

The further SD shares fall the stronger we become, the economy is fuc ked this is how FCB bought HOF.The problem with FCB though is he can't see it,he thinks SD is bombproof. The sooner it goes bust the better...

Don't think he can.He doesn't own Sh1te Direct. He is only the major shareholder. This is one of the reasons I think the FA need to look into him being a fit and proper person to run a football club.Shareholders of Sh1te Direct benefit from merchandise bought at the Sh1te Direct shop that used to be the club shop, not the owner of the club.Profits up at SD/club shop the only winner is SD.
We have been propping up SD for years. This is why the obese slug is rattled.Questions are getting asked. This is why he wants overall control at SD.To hide what he has been doing.
The end might not be far away and when the sh1t hits the fan,I can't wait.
