The air ambulance would have been called because the nearest specialist cardiac hospital is the Northern General.
Once the paramedics had stabilised the patient it would be important to start the next stage of life-saving treatment as quickly as possible and the helicopter would be the best means to facilitate this.
All in all it seems as though the medical teams did a great job in difficult circumstances and hopefully the patient will make a full recovery.

Somebody collapsed in crowd so match was originally delayed so they could land helicopter on pitch.

    Eventually ref postoned the game.

Whilst it’s all very sad that somebody should end up in such a medical position but isn’t the outcome a bit severe to actually abandon the match?

Are the facilities and medical services so bad at Barnsley that they had no way to get this poor soul out of the crowd, into an ambulance and off to hospital?
What an heartless 2hat you are , ope you never need such help ? .

Surely it's not about whether a match could be played it's more about whether anyone wants to play a football match after that or are they in the right frame of mind to play.

Exactly right , everyone around me was saying it should be called off because we could see this was a very serious thing as time went on , you could see the paramedics giving CPR before the blankets were held and privacy was given .

It's upsetting to see and perspective kicks in , as the air ambulance took off and seeing the players walk back out wasn't right when somebody is fighting for their life .

    Yes it is right.

However, would opinions have been different if the incident occurred on 75 minutes with Barnsley leading 3-0?

I really don't know where to start with that in all honesty .

I'll leave it because the truth is when Shankly said football was more important than life or death he was an idiot .

If you have posted that for reaction then fair enough, you're playing your twisted game, if you've posted that in all honesty, you're a very sad man.

Let's hope the bloke makes as full a recovery as possible.

Seems like a quick turnaround 're the treatment he received.
