Match abandoned without a ball being kicked.

Somebody collapsed in crowd so match was originally delayed so they could land helicopter on pitch.

Eventually ref postoned the game.

Whilst it’s all very sad that somebody should end up in such a medical position but isn’t the outcome a bit severe to actually abandon the match?

Are the facilities and medical services so bad at Barnsley that they had no way to get this poor soul out of the crowd, into an ambulance and off to hospital?

Without all the facts to hand it's hard to comment on. Thoughts are with the spectator over football any day.

Who's not to say that the weight of the chopper landing on the pitch didn't cause damage to the playing surface, hence the Ref having to call it off?

Chopper could have been anywhere before finally landing at Barnsley. Again you're talking time for the medical team to get to the patient, assess, deliberate best course of options and the time to finally get the patient in the chopper and away from the area. Many reasons for the lengthy delay and all will be explained as to why what took place had to happen.

Not a million miles for the Burton fans to travel who I suppose will in turn and accept, like the Barnsley fans, what were an unusual set of circumstances.

Why would the services have to be bad? an expert has made that decision, obviously they thought it the right thing to do, it's just a game of football, you know.....

Emergency services routinely evacuate people from tower blocks, mountain sides and other difficult places, but out of the crowd in a match in South Yofkshire appears to be problematic.

Yes take your time extracting the poor soul ( bearing in mind the first hour is called the golden hour for survival) but surely it doesn’t need abandonment of the game?

One of the match day announcers collapsed with a suspected heart attack just as the players were about to kick off .

He collapsed on the bye line right at the side of the Burton goalie and defenders , they raised the alarm .

The players left the field .

Paramedics arrived and gave CPR , blankets were then held to provide privacy and dignity .

The air ambulance arrived at 3.20pm and the man was put in to an induced coma .

The game quite rightly was abandoned at 3.35pm .

Under such circumstances football means nothing .

Hopefully a full recovery will be made and my thoughts are with the man and his family .

Trust animal's explanation is good enough for all to accept why the game was abandoned. Best wishes to the chap involved.
