    O/T pets: Cats v Dogs

I love dogs, they are fantastic animals. If you care for and love a dog, you'll get it back in equal measure. A dog will defend you when it sees danger and help you feel better if you're down. You throw a ball and a dog will bring it back time and again. You can teach a dog right from wrong by human standards and it will understand and accept this way of life because it loves you. If you treat a dog with kindness, then as far as it's concerned, you're God.

Unfortunately I have a cat. It's not really my own cat, it's Mrs Hazza's pet which came as part of the package in the relationship. I'd had no previous experience of cats in my life but they can't be that different from dogs can they?
Well, I quickly learned they're the exact opposite. Whatever you do for a cat, whatever you give and no matter how much affection and care you show it, it will never be enough. Cats do not care if you're feeling crap. They don't want your interaction, they resent you and will not shy away from showing their disgust at you.
They will find a way to wake you up every single night, often more than once, and often for no other reason than for their own entertainment. Cats are greedy, selfish, hateful creatures who see themselves as God. It has little redeeming qualities. They're cute but they play on it. Cats are cunning and manipulative. It knows if I raise my voice, Mrs Hazza will jump to its defence.
The cat will sometimes let you think you've finally struck a bond with it, this will simply be a way to get extra food or treats, and whether it gets them or not, you won't be sleeping well that night.

What are people's opinions on cats and dogs? Am I being too harsh on cats? Are they all like ours or are there any decent cats?

We live in Florida and have a Labrador from Newfoundland. Despite his black coat he has adapted to a hot climate well and his raw food diet keeps him slim and healthy. We take him to the local dog beach and he can outswim all the other mutts because he is fit and has webbed feet. I hate moggies, they are selfish.

We had two border collies who were part of the family. I won't have another dog simply because I don't want to go through the trauma of the ending again. I dislike cats though we have had cats in the past as my wife likes them. The damage they do to wild life and songbirds is considerable and people should be discouraged from keeping the beasts.

Monty, you're missing out, i had similar feelings when we lost our family dog a few years ago, didn't get another for 3 years for fear of getting hurt again, i've now got two and wouldn't be without them. It's true that they are part of the family in every sense and they're great companions, i wouldn't have a cat thrown at me...

I think if the right dog turned up - perhaps a rescue dog - we'd be tempted. There's a few things to consider. I'm 66 although I'm out in the hills every day, my wife couldn't handle anything too boisterous and we sometimes have our 2 yo granddaughter to stay. But I miss having a dog on the walks.

Cats are cool and clever with their own minds, dogs are none of these.

Cats are cold blooded murderers who hate everything.

I should add, to make matters worse ours is an indoor cat. If I had my way it would be a permanently outdoor cat. Cats also have no respect for your belongings and your furniture.
They are that intelligent that they will happily eat plastic until they choke.

My mates wife has 5 or 6 of the damn things, he hates them. One of them drowned in their pool and she insisted on making them move to house with no pool. He loved his pool did my mate, know he hasn't got one, poor bugger.

Cats are Vatican salt and violet Beauregard mixed together... Evil nasty creatures..
I have 2 dogs. A german Shepard and a northern Inuit. Shepard's are the best dogs for family. Loyal, protective, obedient. Inuits, need patience. A strong owner they make you cry and smile with a single action. If you have one ounce of sense don't get one..
