Well it was interesting but for the wrong reasons. Never mind eh!

Apart from two pre season games last evening was the first live competitive match I have seen live this season. It certainly was competitive with some crunching tackles and Vardy tangling with Hause, a mismatch there. As you would expect Vardy came in for some stick from the rather subdued South Bank.


Leicester who started with a strong team, took the game to Wolves in the early stages before we managed to get a foot in the game. Vinagre had several searching forays into the visitors half from the left side and Otto in an unfamiliar right sided role did similar. Cavelaro was working hard and Saiss made several well timed interceptions. Dendoncker slotted into the back three with composure, doing the simple things well and on occasions bringing the ball out of defence with purpose.


As half time drew near Wolves were starting to create chances but so were Leicester and the game looked if it could go either way. Cav had a great chance to score when he was sent through on goal and despite the close attendance of a defender, managed to get a shot away that squirmed past the far post. That was to be his last action of the night, with Jota introduced as his replacement. It wasn't long before Jota was on the receiving end of some rough treatment. How this lad gets up and keeps going beggars belief.

Bennett and Ashley-Seal had joined the fray and during one surging run by Bennett, Gray went down with what looked a bad injury. The medical staff from both Clubs were in attendance, while the stretcher bearers must have set the record for the slowest movement of the evening, as they ambled towards the stricken player. Early reports suggest that the injury may not have been as bad as it looked.

Penalties loomed despite several late attacks and although Ruddy played his part their keeper, Danny Ward had a night to remember with only Ashley-Seal hitting an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net.

I enjoyed the game if not the result. MGW looked a real class act, showing maturity beyond his years.. The big problem for Nuno now, is how does he keep these fringe players happy till the Cup games around Christmas time. A good Cup run would have helped these gain valuable game time. All the squad to their credit last night could slot into the first eleven with ease.

As the upper Steve Bull stand was not open I watched the game from the third row in the Lower Billy Wright. You certainly see the match in a different light from being so low. Often plays were not seen because of the number of legs and bodies in the way. Roll on Saturday when I will be back in my seat for my first live Premiership game this season.

The Cavaleiro chance wouldn't have counted if had gone in as he was flagged offside. I agree with you regarding Leicester starting the game well and in my opinion they could have have gone in at the break a couple of goals up. I think Wolves looked better once Jota had come on. Leicester were trying to stop him in whatever way was possible. They couldn't handle him.

Wolves at least created a few chances in the half with Morgan Gibbs-White making their keeper make a save. Ryan Bennett's effort was almost a carbon copy of his winner at Bristol City last season, but this time the ball didn't go in.

It was good to see the Wolves fans applaud Gray off after he was injured in the clash with Bennett. It's not nice going out of any competition, especially on penalties, but the Saiss and Jota penalties set the standard for me. It was good to see youngster Ashley-Seal show his more established team-mates how it's done!

We never controlled midfield and to be honest Leicester deserved to go through on the chances they created. However, that said it's some consolation still not to have been beaten or conceded a goal in normal play under Nuno in this competition.
