Personally think penalty shots is a poor way to decide a game. a great tool for "defensive coaches" that crowd the box and drag the game on.

Remember someone telling me years ago that, way back when, corner kicks determined the game at the end of regulation and overtime.

Makes a lot of sense if you think about it. If you sit back and crowd the box and never attack you'll give up a whole lot more corners than an attacking or dominant team. Not hard to keep track of either.

Think its ideal for the League cup. If you are a defensive coach it stops you boring everyone for a further 30 minutes. Less wear and tear on players and as it's all midweek matches fans get home on time

What about lower league teams though Spaldy, that haven't got the money to play all attacking football against a prize draw which is a higher league team. Sometimes it's what a team needs to do to try and progress and get a decent amount of money. Also are you just going to get teams playing for corners after 70-75 minutes.

Way, way back in the day I remember playing in a cub scout tournament where you "scored" four for a goal and one for a corner.

I don't think anyone won with fewer real goals than the opposition, but it did encourage attempts to flick balls off of defenders.

There could even be a case to award the match to the away team in the event of a draw, assuming they managed to score in the game?

    Or a replay...

One of the indoor leagues here goes to extra time with golden goal, but with fewer outfield players on the pitch (i.e. six-a-side becomes either five or four).

Might not work as well for the outdoor game and, in all fairness, most of these games still end up going to penalties.

    Have a replay!
