Thread: Out the cup

    Out the cup

Beaten 4-2 in the end. Gave everything but Hearts were just better - no complaints but oh Bigi, what a howler to turn the balance of the game.

Their third also started when they got away with their own piece of incredibly sloppy play in the middle of their half...I was sure that was going to fall for us to break but not quite.

Losing in such a fashion to Hearts isn't the end of the world but - on paper - an easier run of league games is now starting, we need to tighten up at the back to put some much needed points on the board.

    We gave everything?

With all due respect to you and everyone else who applauded that disgusting performance at the end tonight, were any of you watching the same game as me???

The lineup was wrong and the set up was wrong from the get go. A clearly unfit and misfiring Main in ahead of Johnson? Unbelievable. And then he manages to last 90 minutes?!?!

We actually competed okay until Bigi sold the jerseys but our second half performance was pathetic and there is no other word to adequately describe it. Level at 1-1 and yet we approach it without a clue what we were doing, individual errors all over the place and panic stations at the back. It was a minor miracle it took them as long as they did to get in front and then that looked like that until Bowman pulls that cracker from nowhere in what was the only thing of note we did in the entire half. It was no surprise that normal service was soon resumed though and we can have no complaints at the end result.

A disastrous summer of recruitment dealing is coming back bite us big time.

No arguments on that assessment. Couldn't attend (just off the back shift), but I listened on Mixlr and we sounded more than decent for a lot of the game. If we kick on from this disappointment I've no fears we'll be involved in any bottom of table dog-fight. Hopefully there's no crucifixion planned for Bigi, even though he seems to have played a key part in the game's turnaround. Score certainly doesn't reflect the actual play / game.

You're right the scoreline doesn't reflect the play...6-0 to Hearts would have been a more accurate reflection.

Indeed, I can't understand how you saw anything other than a side giving its best and losing to a better team. Poor players will make mistakes and struggle to keep the ball or create against better players - it happens from pub league to Champions League. It's just what happens.

Agree the summer recruitment went wrong but that's a different debate to last night for me.

Ultimately a side spending what Hearts spend should look that much better than us. Of course there's times they'll spend poorly, we'll spend well or they'll be unlucky, we'll be lucky etc but by and large, the 11 guys Hearts can play will just be better than our 11 and going mental about it is pointless.

Against a better team we were level at 89 minutes and lost to a goal which started with a complete fluke. Disappointing sure, disgraceful hardly.
