O/T Best songs by The Clash

Much better band than The Ramones IMO even if Joe Strummer was an ex-public schoolboy with a fake Cockney accent.

But let's start with a couple of Mick's finest:

That's one of the few written by Paul Simonon I think.

I've got "The Clash on Broadway" box set and there's barely a bad song on it.

And unlike The Ramones there did a lot of different styles of music, even rap!

I know it's commercially the most successful Clash number but London Calling captured the grimness of early 80's UK for me .

Takes me right back to that time of mass unemployment and Thatcher .

I thought it was about a nuclear disaster.

Nitpickers pointed out that such an event would reduce the water level in the Thames rather than cause flooding as mentioned in the song.

Their most successful song was "Rock the Casbah" which was written by drummer Topper Headon although the re-release of "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" also got to Number One when it was re-released in the 90s.

Kind of a cover, but 'English civl war', has a fasinating distopian view of the future. Also a great still from the cartoon version of 'Animal Farm'on the picture sleeve.

I will pick "Police on my Back"

The stunning production quality of the music for this track is nothing short of orchestral.
