Just back, a truly great performance. Stead was immense and never stopped running. The defence looked as solid as I have seen for months. The players were playing for each other....well done Kewell, it’s only upwards now....

See if you can stay out there a bit longer , the end of May sounds good.

Agreed. There's a far more solid look about Ward and Turley, who are exactly the type of big, imposing, head it, kick it, no nonsense centre-halves we needed for League Two. Richard Duffy looked lightweight by comparison, while Brisley just went chronically out of form but hopefully will come back refreshed when we need him at some point.

I've missed the last 2 games as well.

I've been really impressed by Kewell's pragmatism and willingness to take a step or two back to go forwards. To be honest, that was basically a performance from when were good last season - hard working, clearing crosses, restricting the opposition to (probably too many) long range efforts. The difference being that we now have more quality and pace in attacking areas to back it up. I would expect us to keep improving now.

Turley tries his *******s off but i'm not sure that he's going to be an answer long term, everything looks a bit panicked and on the edge of disaster with him. You can tell Ward has played at a higher level though, reading of the game is superb.

Turley will presumably be a Warren Feeney recommendation/signing, remembering him from his time as manager at Newport, but I thought he was fine tonight, especially considering that he will still be some way short of full match sharpness. He's certainly got the size and the physical power for this league, and he's not short of a bit of pace for a big lad. Obviously he hasn't got Ward's pedigree, but between them they look a more dominant unit than what went before, and they should get better the more they play together.

Turley was on trial with Crawley over the summer so Kewell knew him - interesting that he chose not to sign him there.

    I'd had the same thought.

I thought HK said he wanted to sign him but it was blocked by the owners? Either way, their loss is our gain.
