    Steve Bruce has had the chop after last night.

    I'm not surprised at this at all. With the players he had at his disposal last season, they should have done better. It's a results business and that is what he is judged on. It will be interesting to see who Villa line up next. It won't be Nuno that's for sure!

    Late last night it was announced that Dean Smith would leave Brentford and take the job at Aston Villa. John Terry will be his assistant. So after all the top International names that were put in the frame, they picked former Walsall manager and Villa fan Smith.

    That doesn't feel like a big club appointment... although he's proved he can succeed with limited resources and as the parachute payments fall away this may be the future for Villa... Underwhelmed.
