I always thought that The Animals were the first to release 'Madman Running Through The Field' you learn something new everyday!

    Meh...

It's interesting how northern soul sometimes drifts off into a cross between the theme tune for a Mary Tyler Moor show and something that did quite well in the Eurovision Song Contest. This is a good example. There's some good Philadelphia sound in there but not much bounce or edge.

Both good versions in my book. Dantalion's original is slightly better I would say. Andy Summers chiming guitar work is highly original and advanced for the era. You can definitely hear undertones of The Police coming through - especially that chord at the end of the first verse which is a take off of the opening chord in "Hard Day's Night" but used differently here.

There was always a good connection between ZM's bands and The Animals. Alan Price played with ZM for a while and Chas Chandler and ZM were mates.

Interesting stuff there CT. It's funny how you go through life thinking one thing only to be proved wrong on a footy board lol.

The first thing you should learn about Northern Soul is that it does not have to be Soul to be classed as Northern Soul. Pop songs, TV theme tunes etc all get lumped in to what we like to call crossover, popcorn, modern and oldies. If you can dance to it we would play it. Wigan Casino in the latter stages was well known for playing things like the Hawaii Five-0 theme tune and Joe 90 theme tune amongst others.

As you can tel from this it was fast and furious music and does have a good beat for dancing. It's not my cup of tea as a Northern record as I am what they call an oldies Soul fan, 60's Soulful music is my taste but after saying that it is a cracking tune and plenty will tell you that this is a Northern Soul tune I just happen to disagree with them lol.
