All that goes way over my head, gf. All I know is that I'd sooner be 'politically correct' and give people a fair chance in life and a fair hearing than be a bigot (or any more of one than I am already).

I was talking about the tangible destruction of prosperity and the curtailment of individual freedoms that Socialism, Communism and every other ism that flowed from Marx's writings have wrought

Marx thought that the proletariat would rise up and take over. The cultural Marxists said that this didn't happen because existing institutions were too strong and well-established and needed to be destroyed first. They also believed that a coalition of aggrieved minorities would be the ones to lead the revolution not the working classes.

That's what we see now, hollowed out institutions and ever-increasing grievance politics.

Wow! So the revolution starts at the BBC! Look out Michael Burke!

Where did the cultural Marxists say this? i'm sure somebody in the know will correct me on this but I would have thought any Marxist Revolution will be through the working classes primarily. It would be a case of the aggrieved minorities joining them at the barricades to fight their oppressors I would think.

There is nowt Marxist about TV culture or why do we get Alan Sugar on every year, endless coverage of the Royals, Alan Bloody Titchmarsh, Period dramas with pampered upper class toffs which make Rees Mogg look like Albert chuffin Steptoe... I could go on...

You really shouldn't make things up.

Political correctness was never about "politeness" though as it's defenders state, it was always about control through language.

Think about the term itself which also came from the USSR, the authorities there would talk about something being factually incorrect but politically correct.

Eventually this lead to the police in Rotherham turning a blind eye to grooming gangs.

There's cultural Marxist stuff on the BBC news front page most days, high up yesterday was a "black and Irish" story, it wasn't actual news.

All those stories they have about oppressed women and minorities, it's part of the cultural Marxist campaign to destroy society and to create grievances, to create that coalition of aggrieved minorities to bring down the government and the capitalist system.

That's why I don't give them any money.

As for your other point, Marx thought the working classes would lead the revolution but the Frankfurt School (most famously Marcuse), who were the original cultural Marxists, and people like Gramsci, Lukács and Münzenberg didn't.

Create grievances? Do you not think that people naturally have grievances? You seem to have plenty on here. Who created your grievances? If you didn't have any you wouldn't be complaining.

Not sure I understand the connection between car ownership and environmental impact. Surely its car usage? Earlier this year we had 4 and used none of them regularly. Now we have just one we don't use regularly. The 3 we sold are probably being used so in essence by reducing car ownership we could have damaged the environment.

Good point camiller and one that is lost on Kerr in his criticism of me. I am all but retired so I very rarely use it and the wife is semi retired so she doesn't use it much either. I would gladly get shut of one of them because it is on its last legs like me and don't see me replacing it because of the expense alone. But to be fair to mr kerr i do think we need to think again about the worlds transport systems.

Which reminds me mr kerr have you not bullied me into cutting down my meat consumption? Naughty...

Yes, roly, CAM often makes the astute observation sound simple. I have taken your advice and thought again about the world's transport systems but gave up. Last year I went to a talk on alternative transport given by a green guru from the local uni and attended by a small army of vegans and SJWs all smelling of patchouli oil. Oddly the vast majority arrived in cars but I was too polite to point this out. I did suggest to one friend who is very big on the environment that he might get rid of his 4x4 but he looked aghast and told me it was essential for towing his boat. No, my friend, we are well and truly knackered.

...I take your point. It dunt look good when even hard core environmentalists can't be arsed either. I do share your pessimism.

But I am cutting down on my meat consumption for Mr Kerr so all is not lost! (I wasn't bullied into it, honest!)When somebody says:"Hurrah the planet is saved. All hail Rolymiller!" you can all put it down to me and i can get my statue made at last! Just don't make it look like Ronaldo's in Madeira though cos it looks nowt like him! Although it does give him the semblance of decent wedding tackle.(So might not be a bad thing in my case...)

(Hmm...I wonder if I'm allowed a cheese sandwich...?)

It's a good point, but as Roly considered himself 'guilty' for having two cars, I assumed that he used them.
