Thread: A long two weeks ahead...

Kilmarnock are able to land Greg Stewart and St.Johnstone pick up Tony Watt....while we bring in Connor Sammon. That says it all for me. Surely either of those two players would have been a better option for us and not out of our wage structure?

We may or may not be relegated this season but I can guarantee that our already poor crowds will plummet unless things change drastically. We can't realistically expect the pay at the gate punters to shell out up to £25 every other week just to get in to watch the dross that we served up yesterday, especially as we head into the winter months.
Virtually no one was keen on Watt when mentioned in fairness. And while no one would say this summer's business was good, it wasn't that long ago others would be complaining about signing dumpling X while we found Moult or even Main in his January-April form. Everyone at our level signs bad players at times, Kilmarnock and St Johnstone are no different.

As for the attendance thing, I'd perhaps put it slightly differently as the number of regulars paying at the gate these days will be tiny - crowds will drop because we're so bad season ticket holders won't bother going to see games they've already paid for...ouch.

Some may not have been keen on Watt but I don't for one minute believe that he was a worse option than Sammon.

Of course every side will sign poor players from time to time, especially at our level, but the point is that there surely were better options out there than what we ended up with. I don't know if it was down to poor scouting, poor management or lack of funds or even a combination of all three, but our summer transfer business was a disaster.

We signed the wrong players in the summer because we strengthened the bench rather than the first eleven. We also need to change our tactics because lumping a ball 60 yards up the pitch every time we have possesion at the back will get us nowhere. That was like watching an amateur game yesterday. The two teams were f****** dire. If that was a semi decent side we played yesterday we would have got slaughtered. If Robinson is still there in January he has to change the way we play and get a player who can pass a ball and a player with a bit of pace, and switching to a back four would be a decent start to.
