    Still think this is too far fetched. Stand at the alleged site today and could you possibly picture that scenario. Draw a horizontal line from your feet across to the river..... no way would that be full of water. I would love to see any photographic evidence or indeed any written evidence of this high water mark.

    My mother worked in Hamiltons for many years but couldn't recall the water ever reaching that far. Not to say that it didn't before her time. She also worked in Peters Stores. She'll have a look for the mark when she's next up the Vennel as she didn't know about it. Was it Irvines that sold the subbuteo teams?

    May have been. It was on Nith Street, just next to the junction.

    Deke had a look yesterday and cannot see mark on the shop now a hairdressers or on the pub wall. Will ask the next time
