On the AFC Heritage site checking the dates for the football firsts thread & came across this fixture

Obviously it was behind closed doors but does anyone know how we ended up playing them & how Brian Grant managed to score a hat trick? Seems an odd fixture at an odd time of the season

I'm not sure but Wikipedia says that during the 1988/89 season they had a Scottish coach called John Higgins. Was he pals with Bobby Clark perhaps and managed to arrange a match during a Scottish tour?

I vaguely remember us trying to sign two Americans including John Harkes (?) or that latter bit might be nonsense. Certainly 'a big' centre-half if I recall correctly...

Grant maybe playing more advanced with Paul Wright
