Hey up, what's going on here Sub ???

"Labour Party Chairman Ian Lavery has resigned his position as Chairman of his beloved Ashington Football Club. The club are in a financial mess and are expected to be declared bankrupt next week. This is despite over £1m of taxpayers’ money being spent on the club by a controversial firm with links to Lavery. Lavery is no stranger to financial misadventures – he is still facing questions over the £165,000 he received from a trade union he ran before becoming an MP…
It is unclear at the moment if Lavery will remain a director of the club along with his political aide Mark Fitton. If evidence of ‘unfit conduct’ is found, the national chairman of the Labour Party could potentially be disqualified from being a director of companies in the future. It wouldn’t be the first company to go under as a result of Labour’s stewardship…"

Looks like Labour's tendency to run out of other people's money and go bankrupt has now reached into non-league football. I was going to go over to Nelson tonight for the re-arranged FA Vase game, I hope they can still afford the coach down and they actually turn up.

"As a result of Labour's stewardship"? I have just scrolled through the last five years worth of Labour Party audited accounts and can find no record of any involvement with any football club.

Well that was a waste of your time BT, no one has suggested the Labour Party are involved with any football club. What we have is a dodgy Labour politician running a football club, and as Labour politicians are apt to do, bankrupting it despite spending lavish sums of taxpayer's money on it. Incompetent and corrupt, just an everyday tale of Labour and other people's money. Nothing changes.

This is quite a long tale with its roots in the National Union of Mineworkers in this area. I am unwilling to go into what I have heard because of possible legal implications, however, the true story will probably never be told because he seems to have covered his tracks pretty well. Suffice to say that he no longer lives in Ashington but has a 'palace' in an area on the outskirts of Newcastle which is frequented by footballers, actors et al who earn mega bucks.
Just what will happen with Ashington Football Club is open to conjecture but they now have a new Chairman who took his position this weekend.

Like I said Sub, nothing changes does it, just another everyday tale of a Champagne Socialist. Anyway I'll be supporting them tonight on your behalf, I'm sure they won't let us down.

Thanks sinky. I have no idea what sort of team they will field because the latest news was that some lads were struggling to get time off work for the trip! .Likewise, the supporters had a coach booked for Saturday but I don't think that that will be the case tonight. The team have won four and drawn one of their last five matches after a poor start tothe season. Enjoy the game!

I must be reading this wrong then? "It wouldn’t be the first company to go under as a result of Labour’s stewardship…"

I think they'll be OK Sub, as long as they can get 11 on the field. Nelson are not on a par with Clitheroe, who are about the same level as RCA and so presumably Ashington. If I can find anyone from Ashington I might be tempted to ask just WTF is going on at the club. You never know, over a pint in the bar, an innocent friendly question often gets some honest answers. We'll see. It's amazing how much I've found about what goes on behind the scenes at Clitheroe, just by asking.
