    Difficult one to judge. A successful career can depend on luck, timing (good or bad) fitness or manager's style and philosophy - take Mitro for example.

    At least Pingel managed to score a goal and made a few appearances. Likewise Guivarch, Andy Walker, John Robertson Paul Moran, paul Dalgleish, Paul Kitson, Doumbia etc.- they were cheapish too.

    I measure this one on appearances as well as goals. If a signing makes no appearances they must have been extra bad. Believe Wise signed an Italian whose name escapes me now who made zero starts and ended up the translator.

    Measured on attitude and transfer fee Owen must be up there.
