    The future of Sam Field

If he doesn't get a game tomorrow, where does he go from here?
The Pulisesque Moore( stubborn likes a 30 year old) will probably go Brunt, Barry, Hoolihan, hope not we need some energy in midfield to match that of Derby.

Don't quite get this Pulisesque title some fans give to BD. We're playing as good a football now as I've seen from us in years. Albeit in the league below.

Suppose its the criticism of not playing the younger players, I guess they have to wait for chances to present themselves like this one. And if they get it they have to take it.

Agree with you that Sam Field has been chronically mismanaged in the last couple of years, but most of that isn't down to BD.

I would like to see Field in but I'm fine with Barry or Hoolihan coming in though I suspect Barry will replace Livermore. The one thing I am certain of is that Brunt should not play.
I don't agree that we are playing good football 123. Gayle, Barnes, Phillips & Rodriguez are, maybe Gibbs as well, the rest are poor and the central midfield pairing of Livermore and Brunt is the problem. It's also obvious to most fans that Mears is not the right player to stand in when Phillips is out.

I'd like to know what's happened with Field.
He's looked class when actually playing. Plays with his head up and always seems to have an extra second or two when he receives the ball. Echoes of Bryan Robson.

Then there was the episode where Pardew called him out before hanging him out to dry against Man City away.

Pulis didnt start him (no surprise there), Pardew appeared to see something lacking, BD doesn't seem to trust him and yet in the brief SGM period he flourished.

There's undoubtedly a class player there but does he have an attitude problem or has it been bad player management?

It use to be that when a young player got a chance in the first team they took it. I do find that there is a different form of motivation surrounding youg players today. Perhaps years ago there was an added incentive of getting a bonus payment for playing in the first team and of course back then money was harder to come by.
I think attitudes have changed and many players when given a chance in the modern game don't seem as keen as yesteryear...
Just an observation I note...I think it was Roy Keane who said some time back that an average player can make a very good living out of football nowadays without much trouble.....he may have a point...
Anyway...I thought SF was a decent player when I seen him playing...but who knows...

    The graveyard for young talent.

I wouldn’t let a talented son of mine sign forms for Albion if other clubs were interested.

    Agree Mick.
There appears to be a huge gap between being on the fringes of the first team and solidifying a place.

    Who's to blame for that?

Sorry but I would never utter Fields name in the same sentence as Bryan Robson. Bryan Robson was the complete player. He could play any position better than anyone else. No one tackled like him, no one could turn defence quickly into attack like him. Field is just a decent player. no more. We have had a lot of promising lads but I think watching Barnes play shows the gulf between him and the other lads. I can understand concerns over players like mears or even Bartley to be honest, but If I was the manager I wouldnt be replacing experienced players with "potential" I don't share the sentiment just because a player is young. Barnes MORE than earns his place. We want to get out of this league THAT is the priority. When Field came on the other week he looked very lightweight. Got pushed around too easily which is strange because I'm sure he was showing better form when we were in the Prem. Mentality is also a big thing. Robson had a brilliant mentality. solid and strong taking no prisoners every week. I dont see that with our youngsters. Robson had broken his legs a few times in crunching tackles at their age. Amazing kid.
