Two stand out for me. 'The Wall', by Pink Floyd, which admittedly, has a hit record in it. Paris,Texas, a weird mid-eighties film, with a sound track by the brilliant Ry Cooder. Atmospheric music at its best.
Blue Collar
Trainspotting.
But the use of Barber's 'Adagio for Strings' in the final scenes of Platoon, was damn fine.
