Last year my missus contributed to the 'Poppy of Honour' by writing the name, rank and number of some 500 WWi missing on individual poppies. One million + of these poppies were then displayed as 1 big poppy. It went on display in Wincanton.

Just read that last week it was vandalised.

Trying to find the words to describe and a suitable punishment for these scum.

A good old fashioned black country word that Johnny aint heard 'lamping' for ages and very apt for just such an incident as this

Probably been done by the typical “snowflake”,left wing,university type that has been trying to get events at places like Cambridge University commemorating the world wars banned.

I see a time in the near future where people who fought in both world wars will be described as “war criminals” and within a 100 years statues of Monty and Churchill will be torn down.

We are breeding a nation of pathetic,insipid lightweights.

I’m glad I lived the bulk of my life when I did and that I’ll be dead soon but possibly not soon enough!

You'r spot on mickd. I despair at the attitude of some of these 'snowflakes', most of them supposedly intelligent and attending top universities. Have they got nothing better to do with their time? Don't these supposedly intelligent individuals realise that some of the actions of people in the past happened when times and values were different to those of today. For example, demanding that Bristol apologises for the slave trade. How ridiculous, as if somebody living in 21st century Bristol is responsible for the slave trade!

The biggest crime is the hounding of ex-servicemen involved in any armed action. They were only carrying out orders and the hounding of these men, most of whom are now in the twilight of their lives, is disgusting. We should be honouring them for their bravery not putting them on trial. God help this country if we ever had a conventional WW3 if we relied on these 'snowflakes' to defend us. They ought to go down on their benched knees thanking the men of two world wars plus other conflicts that our servicemen have been involved in so that they can waste their time with such inane activities. Rant over.

We used to say that at school actually, and I always wondered if it was just a northern or a Yorkshire word. To 'lamp' or to 'lace' somebody, ie to give them a damn good thrashing.

I thought it was a nationwide word. The Oxford English says it is a northern word from the 16th century.

It is because most of them have lived sheltered lives as mummy’s little darling who could do no wrong, then go to Uni (Most do today) at 18 and then study until they are 23. They then look for work after a year out. 24 years old and just starting out on the pathway of working for a living. That’s why they are so soft. Bring back National Service and make men out of them rather than duvet hugging softies. Marshmallow people in a marshmallow world will get toasted come the day of reckoning
