O/T The True Face Of Austerity

This is the real price people have paid in this country due to 8 years of austerity .

This is the end result of tax breaks for the wealthy and cuts for the less well off .

This is the ideological choice the government and the former coalition made in the name of balancing the books .

This is the cost paid by the most vulnerable people in society for the collapse of the finance industry.

This is supposed to be one of the richest country's on the planet .

This is the real UK today .

Of course it's supposedly coming to end , what does that actually mean ?

In my opinion coming to end is a bit like the government taking £20 a week off you for the last 8 years and then marking the end of austerity by giving you £50 back in your hand .

Because you have come to expect absolutely nothing the £50 seems very generous , it's a con trick of course .

The phrase austerity will be taken off the headlines but the affects will remain and may never recover .

Im not a political expert but IMO cuts in local government spending have been driven by the reasoning that for too many years labour controlled councils have been their worst enemy regarding waste of public funds and now the labour run councils are blaming the government for trying to pay back years of spending by previous governments. We live in a debt ridden society - the young people of today do not consider waiting and saving enabling them to buy goods /services when it meant they didn't go into debt. How many private companies have "Assistant Directors" PA's and an army of non value adding staff? And before any body cries "Tory scumbag" I am actually a Labour Party card holder.

There are glaring contradictions in your post bogsdollox
So it's only Labour councils that waste money is it;do a bit of homework
Who was it that set the current obsession of "let the market decide" leading to our debt ridden society
When cuts are made to what used to be called Rate Support Grant who suffers;the general public in this game
I think you'll find lots of private co's with Assistant this & assistant that & armies of non value adding staff
Have you tried ringing customer services of private companies?
Hand your card back mate & make a difference

Well balanced post BD, under Blair labour created the largest tax payer funded joyride ever, this was built upon the unsolid foundations of debt but supported by (at the time) reliable finance. When he finance stopped Labour looked at the debt and though sh1t it was good while it lasted.

Debt to income ratios are at a all time high as BD alludes to and its the working class who unfortunately want everything now.

Is this the same Tony Blair/New Labour who your avatar described as "her greatest achievement?" Blair/New Labour were Tory-lite. Politics has (fortunately) moved on big time and the Labour party is a totally different animal under Corbyn. Maybe not your cup of tea, but don't try to pretend that the current Labour party has any resemblance to Blair and co.

Well it wouldn't be those at the other end of the social spectrum would it as they already have everything now
