Very eery and atmospheric and the old cliche is true that there are no birds singing.

Interesting comments about Hiroshima. My Dad's mate was in Burma fighting the Japs. He always said they'd still be fighting if America hadn't of dropped the bomb given Japan's refusal to end the war despite having lost it.
From what I know Dachua wasn't an extermination camp, but it was still a horrible place.

We had that same discussion after visiting the Hiroshima site and museum and we also concluded there was no way the Japs would ever have surrendered, what with them seeing their emperor as a God.

My Grandfather fought in Burma like your dad's mate and we owe them all a tremendous debt of gratitude as the Japs were savage with the way dealt with POW, so much so a lot of them still refuse to accept the feeble, belated apology from Japan re their treatment.

There are some interesting films about the brutal treatment of the POW by the Japs including Unbroken and the Railway Man.

My father was fortunate as having been an ex-Welsh Guardsman when he was called up for WW2 he spent the war training new recruits. He told me that what was so upsetting for him was the fact that having got to know them he knew that many would never return.
