How come this comparison irritates you so much Andy? He’s a leader who puts economic recovery before any form of moral responsibility. To that extent at least the comparison is valid and his attitude to Mexicans, Muslims and the disabled is also deeply disturbing.

To be clear, I'm not at all suggesting Trump is anywhere near Hitler. Just the fact we can end up with a wrong sort of leader who can do a whole of damage by employing the very same tactics that creep did in 1933. To be fair it wasn't so bad in 2016. Hilary was an equally poor candidate and Trump was more palatable given his promise on jobs, immigration and economy. But the levels he's stooping to ensure a Republican victory is deeply disturbing on the back of some really strange and improper policies he's implemented.
He's just lying and it's so obvious to everyone except his base and even some or many of those Republicans running know he's lying and stoking up fears and yet just to get elected they are prepared to let it slide. The Republican party is better than this or was better than this. Trump's tactics are a warning that in future you may end up with even worse candidates who seeing that this is the best way to win, continues this downward spiral. And we may end up with someone as disturbed or as bad as Hitler as US President.
The staggering silence of the party and the demonization of those few who have tried to warn against this - Flake, McCain and Corker is shocking.

And even worse, this recipe is now being copied by many political parties and candidates around the world. Just look at Brazil and Italy. The possibility that someone in Britain following suit cannot be discounted. Brexit is a quagmire, May is hopeless and Steptoe possibly even worse. The mood is ripe for a Trumpesque candidate to seize the initiative post Brexit and seize control of a major party and end up winning election. Only Macron in France bucked the trend.

Anyway besides all this doom and gloom, there was 1 race yesterday that stopped a nation. The Melbourne Cup. Here's the race won in a come from behind fashion

Because its an easy hit and a poor analogy. If Hitler had stopped at the point Trump has reached now, he would be a mere footnote in history. At the first sign of a move towards dictatorship or ethnic cleansing I'll be flashing the Hitler card as vigorously as all the folk on social media who use it as a 'top trump (sic)' card to supposedly 'win' or close down discussions.

The results are in and I have to say I am confused. The US electorate went out and gave the Democrats the majority in the House of Representatives but slightly increased the Republican majority in the Senate.

This means that a lot of them will have voted for a Dem Rep and a Rep Sen. There has to be some kind of tactics in there but they escape me. If they really wanted to strip Trump of all power shouldn't they have made sure the Dems got a majority in both houses?

Hopefully, the new situation will turn him into some kind of lame duck anyway. However, I expect Pelosi to block any moves at impeachment.

It’s really not that poor an analogy, Andy. Trump has only been in power for just under two years and already he has taken steps to alienate Mexicans and Muslims and ridicule the disabled.
Of course Hitler would have been a ‘mere footnote’ had he stopped after twenty three months but that’s surely the point, together with the fact that, like Hitler, Trump gains whatever limited domestic approval he has as a result of being perceived to be re*****ising the economy regardless of his amoral lunacy in other areas.
Strange one that too. Usually when a change of leadership coincides with an economic upswing the departing government claims some of the credit. In the UK the Tories have made a habit of it...claiming after every defeat that Labour are only able to improve things because of the healthy finances they inherited...this time apparently it’s all Trump’s work...nothing to do with Obama’s legacy...just DT’s very own twenty three month economic miracle. Scarcely believable is it?

Aye...sorry, I always forget the level of childishness that bans the word v-ital!
Let’s settle for ‘regalvanising’ and hope Andy can at some point make the owners recognise their pettiness.
