Well well well , that is good news , well done to everyone concerned and a refreshing change from recent times .
Barnsley Football Club are delighted to announce that Alex Mowatt has signed a new contract at Oakwell!
The midfielder has been in magnificent form this season, receiving the ‘Player of the Month’ award for August, September and October, voted for by the fans!
Signing a new contract until the summer of 2020, with the option of a further year in favour of Barnsley Football Club, Mowatt has committed his future at Oakwell and has clear intentions of what he wants to happen in that time-frame.
“Promotion, that’s all we are focused on.” Said the midfielder. “I’ve really enjoyed my football this season, it has been a pleasure to play in a side like this so far and we’re doing well, but it’s all about staying focused and getting the club back up to the Championship, that’s the aim of everyone at the club both on the playing side and the staff.”
Mowatt has been a pivotal figure in Daniel Stendel’s side so far. He’s started every league match under the German Head Coach, adding fight, passion and quality to the central areas, as well as chipping in with two excellent goals from outside the box on his wand of a left-foot.
“We are all happy that Alex will be staying with us,” said Stendel. “He’s stepped up this season. In the summer I wanted everyone to know that my arrival was a fresh start, a new style and a new chance for everyone. Alex’s professionalism and attitude was clear from day one, he’s very, very fit and that helps with how we play. He’s young and has time to improve as well so I look forward to working with him further.”
After completing the contract extension of one of the key members of the squad, Chief Executive Gauthier Ganaye was evidently delighted to have secured Mowatt’s future until 2020, with a further year option in the Reds’ favour.
“It’s great to see a key player commit their future to our project,” explained Ganaye. “There has never been any target this season other than promotion and Alex likes that. He’s been exceptional on the pitch, he’s scored goals, got assists and also adapted well to Daniel’s style out there with the pressing and defensive side of his role. This is an excellent announcement for the club to secure his future.”

Proper statement of intent from the club! A refreshing change indeed.
Wasn't he binned to Oxford and failed to gerrin their team onna regular basis ? He seems to ev lost a lotta weight and be playing better. Not Championship quality though. These new owners should be assembling a squad capable of gerrin promotion AND doing well in the league above in the style of Wigan and Wolves. All we ev done iz keep a squad that can get back up. January and next summer will tell us weear we are.
I think if you read what the Leeds fans said about him all in all I think they felt he should not have been sold
Sometimes players lose their way a little & I believe that is what happened to Mowatt On the up & hasn't he been voted player of the month for last 3 months?
BTW have you seen where Wigan lie in the table?
4 points above relegation zone a la BFC of old
I've always had faith in Mowatt. He's quality and I'm chuffed to bits. He is Championship class as he played 120 games for Leeds and some cracking goals for them. He'll be hitting his peak now and I'm glad its with us.
Great news this , the fact that the club have acted and more importantly that the lad wanted to stay and has signed a long contract
