I have no idea who drafted the Benn Act, but it didn’t prevent a no deal outcome as its authors and some of the media suggested. And there was no loophole - the Act required Johnson to send a letter. It didn’t change government policy and nor could it prevent Johnson articulating that policy as he did. How could it?

The blind faith that Remainers appear to have had in the Benn Act has had me perplexed ever since I first heard about it and I’m thick.
