Brown would be a bad move. He had one brief spell of success but has failed miserably ever since. The fact that he made Swindon almost as bad as we are now says he's a spent force. Hurst has been consistently good in the lower leagues.

We’ve not appointed anyone yet so I’ll save my reaction for who it is. However when you look at it I think Hurst would have been an excellent appointment. Relatively young, experienced and all recent as well.

He proved himself at non league level with Ilkeston and Boston before going to Grimsby and taking them back to the football league. At Shrewsbury he saved them from relegation to league two and then took them to the top end of league two before going to Ipswich.

He’s got a 49% win ratio throughout his nine year managerial career. That speaks volumes.

I really hope that if he is no longer in contention we’ve got a better candidate as he seemed like a good choice.

So what happened to the short list of 3?

In the situation we are in, it can only be concluded that there is a better manager in the wings. Hurst wanted to come, he has a decent track record as you have pointed out, I can only conclude that someone better is in the wings so to speak.

I know Hardy was really keen on Bowyer before he appointed Kewell, again it's speculation but I'm pondering whether Bowyer has made himself available. He was the number one target before Kewell, otherwise, why did he ask Bowyer about joining Notts before he'd appointed Kewell. Now we've rejected a very capable candidate, in logical terms putting 2+2 together would say he's after Bowyer but this is Notts so logic need not be applied, but he needs to get this one right

Obviously it's now a shortlist of two, it's not a difficult concept

Yes, but Hurst isn't coming, is he? Repeatedly saying how good he would be is like saying what you would do with the lottery money you haven't won.

Phil Brown has a win success of 35%, Paul Hurst's is 49%, much better, I know, but if he ain't coming it might as well be 100%.

At 1/7, I'd be surprised now if it isn't Ardley.

He's slipped back to 4/9 on skybet now, I don't think anyone knows what's going on. Someone obviously thinks it's Ardley though
