    O/T RIP Pete Shelley

Sadly the Buzzcocks front man has died of a heart attack at 63. Great memories of the late 70s and their music.

    RIP

Back when "pop punk" still had a good name.

Bugger. The holy trinity of single - Ever Fallen in Love, Promises and Everybody's Happy Nowadays are probably 3 of the best consecutive punk pup songs ever released by a band. A golden period, short lived but glorious.

Very sad to leave us so young. RIP Pete.

    Sad news
Got the "Spiral Scratch" EP when it first came out, and the first two albums on vinyl, plus some Buzzcocks collections on CD.
    Good stuff!

Very sad. The ultimate figure of the punk movement. Very underated song writer and musician. Forget the mohican look, real punks looked like Pete.

Talented as Shelley was, that could only be Johnny Rotten.

Much as i like Rotten, he was a showman to me. Shelley encapsulated the anti-superstar ideal of the punk movement. Sounds pretensious, i know......

I think he was more like the first Indie star really, didn't they put out the first real Indie records?

You say punk and I think Rotten, Vicious, Joey Ramone, Johnny Thunders, Pete Shelley is not who first comes to mind.

TBH I think the Buzzcocks original singer Howard Devoto was more "punk" than Pete Shelley.

I suppose it depends on one's definition of punk. It's all rock and roll to me.

Thought Homosapien was his best song.
