Thread: Mediocre squad even for the Championship.

  1. #21
It never ceases to amaze me that folk still think it's possible to build a championship winning team from almost nothing in one transfer window. It may be doable, with a huge amount of luck, but it's incredibly unlikely. Robbie now finds himself in the same position Csaba did last season (he won his first few games too remember) but I just hope it doesn't end up the same way.

As much as some have had a go at Gunboat for his point changing of the manager he was bang on as it was pivotal regards recruitment during the summer....the below standard players Csaba brought in are most def giving us their best......that is just not good enough to win this tight league Championship or not!!
MM made a massive boob under his own name on this score and will probably cost us another season in this league unless funds are made available for RN to get at worst 3-4 quality/experienced players in!
if we do we might just make it to the play offs or with fingers crossed the title??

    mon utd?!!
Should have sacked csaba after ICT away last season. He had lost dressing room but we took on the novel approach of letting him have another go and build a new team - some on multi year contracts.

At least we have RN now and hopefully he’ll get some funds in January

RN is only working with what hes got which is a decent but nothing special squad. a few good players in there but with no real strength in depth. look at yesterday we seemed to have no real options from the bench esp attacking wise. king and smith who are both inconsistent.
not overly chuffed with the result or performance yesterday esp after seeing county drawing but at the same time after the doing we got from ayr it was important to not lose again straightaway. you saw yesterday we seemed to lack that confidence we had before ayr game so i might have taken a scrappy win or draw to get some confidence back.
until jan RN will have to work with the squad hes got but there are a lot of deadwood in the squad. guys who are nowhere near the team e.g. wardrop, barton, robson and yannick whislt the likes of Rakovan, Edge and rabitsch just not good enough.

    Goalkeeper is massive position.

    Csaba brought in two duds.

That has cost us a lot of points this season including yesterday.

No blame can be attached to RN. He’s definitely getting best out of team but hard slog with what’s he’s got to deal with at united right now

After the final match last season, when we failed to win the play off match against Livi, this is when Csaba should have left United - all the football commentators , press people and fans all thought this - but he was kept on and allowed to build and recruit a squad of players - Mike Martin and the board made this decision.

Robbie is now having to make the best out of what he has available and he has his work cut out for him.

Next season, if we fail to get promotion, there is a decent chance that Dundee, Arbroath and maybe Raith will be in the Championship...........

I think Robbie will sort this mess out eventually, but it's going to take time - maybe longer than we all hope.

Thing is Terry, i think you are over-egging what people want or expect from a window, especially as RN does not have to plug as many holes as managers have had to in previous years. Rumour has it a keeper has been identified, get Tony Ralston in at RB then someone to allow Fyvie and Stanton to push forward a wee bit. After that, if some are moved on, a striker and a winger could be added.

Prince Buaben available in January. Be very, very surprised if there is a better alternative available in the transfer window.

I thought Buaben was on loan at Falkirk and more likely to extend that deal rather than head back to Hearts.

He's signed for Falkirk on a short term deal til January. Had already been freed by Hearts.
