    Jrod

Surely if Burnley come in with anything like the £16m they reportedly bid at the start of the season for him, we have to sell.

I like Jrod, he works hard, but you wouldn't call him our 'stand out player'. Plus he's 29 and I think we could do a lot with that kind of cash - providing it was well invested.

    Anyone think otherwise?

If we sell him we would have to replace him and how much would that cost? probably most if not all of the money we receive, so we still wouldn't be in a great position, long term we also have to take into consideration that neither Barnes or Gayle are our players so will need replacing i'm not sure January would be the right time to sell one of the top scorers in the division but i guess it will depend on what other funds we have available and would replacing J Rod be more difficult than replacing someone like Dawson probably our only other player that would bring in a fair amount of money.

I will be absolutely amazed if we get anywhere near £16m for JRod. Good player but even these ridiculous days surely not worth that much. I do though agree that we are light upfront if Leicester recall Barnes but hopefully that will not happen.

I guess the question is, would you back our recruitment team to find a better striker than Jrod for the cash we would sell him for.

I would think they should be able to.

Gayle is a swap loan for Rondon too, so we would have him returning too next season unless we sold him, which would bring in extra cash.

I think the better long term thing to do would be to buy a quality younger striker who has a few extra years left in him than Jrod. We were linked with Bradley Dack for similar cash who's 24..

It's not the recruitment team I worry about, it's the people or person at the club that sanction any transfer deals, one thing that will count against J Rod is that despite the flex down in wages he will still be one of the highest paid players at the club so I wouldn't be surprised if he gets sold.

I think DM has a new transfer policy. A few years ago our recruitment was based on potentials from a vast library of players they meticulously gathered scouring football annuals and cigarette cards. Remember that photo of Garlic with all those Betamax videos.
Now we take a more scientific approach and search google for out of contract players around 40, ideally with injury or personality issues.
