38 years old and a class above every player on that pitch at Brammall lane toneet, pleasure to watch his clever footballing intelligence. Experienced players who're still game are priceless
A do remember thi sayin that Jules. However, having watched him toneet I'd say he's still got summat to offer at top flight level. He's strong, fit, has leadership qualities, uses the ball well and sits in there pulling the strings. Class act and a model professional. No chance we'd have got him as a player but as you say if we'd have offered the player/manager role it would've been hard for him to turn down.
Agreed Pass but unfortunately it doesn't fit the f++king PLAN
Watched a documentary on BT Sport last week about Man Utd when they were relegated to the old 2nd division in 1974 .
The story covered the rebuilding process when they built a young team ready for the season back in the top flight .
Gordon Hill , Steve Coppell , Gerry Daly , Stewart Pearson , Sammy Mcilroy , Brian Greenhoff , Alex Forsyth , David McCreery and Stewart Houston .
All young players at the time and they did well , however they blew the league in the run in and lost the FA cup final to second division Southampton.
They signed the experienced Jimmy Greenhoff the season afterwards and won the cup beating league and european champions Liverpool in the final .
Of course football people know this as Stendel will too but the suits see it the other way and the power at Oakwell ain't in the technical area and it hasn't existed since Wilson part two was here .
can we say we made harvey barnes, he his a great player. also on that team another ex barnsley loanee jay rodriguez
Wiv ed sum guddens on loan ova years. Trippier, Ryan shotton, Kevin long, Drinkwater, Mcshane, Hammill, Rodriguez etc all went on to laik premiership and in some cases international football. Did we mekkum? In a way yes because we gave them a chance of regular league football but the ability was clearly there already I'd say, it just needed us as a stepping stone in their careers and we needed them at the time too. Its a pattern thats not altered darn theear int last few years.
Woodrow 'll be next to go onto better things. Can see him doing a Benik Afobe. The deal goes through for "x" amount from Fulham to us and then he signs with someone else the next day for a greater "x" amount and GG says it's a fantastic deal for the club and we'll retain an interest in his future.
