I don't know if many of you can remember but there was also an exact game as 'Subbuteo' called 'Newfooty'. The only difference was the plastic figures were slightly different and I think that the bases were weighted and 'Subbuteo' weren't. All the rest of the rules were the same.

It was definitely called Frustration, I remember playing that countless times along with Mastermind around my cousins house.

As I recall the players were made out of card and it would not take much for them to be bent. I inherited my brother’s Subbuteo. It had the plastic red and white teams that could break quite easily. One thing I recall was the quality of the older pitch and goals. Much superior to the thinner and more flimsy later things. Being a football obsessed kid I was quite happy using that pitch and goals when I made up my own football games complete with leagues and cup competitions. I would also play whole test matches and competitions using those little plastic things and when I lost one of those adapting a pencil.

You're right Q, the original players were made out of carboard and got easily damaged. The bases also had lead weights in them. I remember playing in a league which meant travellng all over the Romney Marsh to play games.
