    Club statement

RUFC has issued a statement on the club's website regarding racial abuse. This is part of it -

It has been brought to our attention that there have been some recent isolated incidents of racial abuse by a small minority of Rotherham United supporters at both home and away matches...

I can't recall ever hearing any racial abuse directed at any player, home or visiting. Have I been sitting in the right/wrong areas?

Fully support this initiative if racism exists at NYS.

Don’t hear it myself apart from an away game once but fans round him shut him up.

Northstand has been mentioned on twitter about a father and son. Which sounds like it’s been going on quite a bit which is astonishing.

Saturday I saw a few being escorted out by stewards in family stand near to away end ,maybe that was something to do with racism.

    Life time ban if proven

I remember some misunderstandings when Andy Monkhouse was playing for us.

That was against wba when current manager Darren Moore was playing for them.
He wrongly accused our fans calling him monkey. Think he eventually apologized

I was at that FA Cup game at Millmoor - someone in the Tiv threw a banana at Cyrille Regis I think it was - or the other black lad - Batson?

Two memorable ones for me from Millers ‘fans’ in the last 10/15 years.

Someone telling Curtis Woodhouse to go back to the jungle when he misplaced a pass - should have been thankful he didn’t hear cus he’s called out fans before who have insulted him and gently pointed out that he’s a pro boxer (or at least in training at the time).

Then a few years ago when Ade Akinfenwa was at Gillingham and someone calling him a big foreign b*****d. Swiftly followed by the bloke’s mate pointing out he is from Islington in London and everyone else laughing at the idiot.

Different game and different era Saw
Think the game you mention was involving Laurie Cunningham and Cyrille Regis.

Andy Monkhouse and Darren Moore was when Ronnie was manager first time around

Does nobody remember a friendly against Sheff Wed at Millmoor, mid 90s, it was a mid week game because I remember having my first job interview the day after.

Wednesday striker Mark Bright was taunted with monkey chants until he scored in front of the tivoli. A repeated and loud chant of 'you black b######' ensued as he made his way back to his half.
I think he spoke out about it afterwards and it was in local headlines for a few days.

On Saturday I was sat not far from the lads that got took out or moved by the stewards but didn't hear anything racist. They were shouting a lot but pretty much just having a go at our players for their poor first half showing.
They didn't put up much resistance though, so maybe I'm wrong.
