    What was the former name of the now extinxt Muscular Arms on John Street before it was The Muscular Arms?

    Pretty sure it wasn't a pub before The Muscular Arms. From memory it was a shop of some kind but a gym opened around 1984 and they called the pub underneath The Muscular Arms.

    I was looking at an Evening Express article and found places like Walter's Bar on Great Northern Road, The Snug and the Glenlivet all now gone...

    What were the popular watering holes after the games in 1960s,1970s and 1980s?

    Walters was short lived. It reverted back to the Tanfield early 80s. its now an undertakers which is quite appropriate as many zombie like characters would drink there. A pub crawl along Great Northern Rd used to be some experience.. Starting at the Tanfield -Millers bar-Central-Crown-Royals- ending at the White Horse. If you survived that you were some Kiddie.
