Can't think of any as bizarre as the Hockaday /Leeds one.
I remember in the late 90's Brentford's chairman appointed himself as team manager. I can't remember his name, oldish fella, think he had something to do with snooker. We were in the same division as them at the time under Ronnie Moore.

Didn’t they win the league with Ron noades in charge, seem to remember the Vance warner leo fortune west tiff when they licked us 0-3 under noades at millmoor.

Terry Smith, the American Football coach who installed himself as boss of Chester City. The takeover is the subject of a documentary called the American Dream and was recently discussed by the Quickly Kevin podcast. Hilarious to outsiders but it must've been heartbreaking for fans.
