    2017/18 v 2018/19

Interesting comparison between last season and this season.
We’re only 3pts and a 7-1 stuffing at Ibrox off our performance last year

I suspect we'll end up close to last season's league finish but I can't see us having a trip to Hampden in May.

It's amazing what two cup runs resulting in two semis and two finals with four trips to Hampden combined can do to an other wise dismal season.

I loved our Cup exploits last season as we all did, but they and our admittedly good first quarter of the season made the campaign look a lot better than it actually was. The reality is that we were awful from late October onwards and the football we played was eye bleeding stuff.

Having Louis Moult there early season certainly helped though and there was a 'fresher' feel to things in early 17/18 as we'd finally got rid of the old guard, it was Robinson's first full season and we had begun the season with a 5-1 win at Hampden to kick off an excellent League Cup run which saw us pick up massive wins over Aberdeen and Rangers on the way. It was certainly an enjoyable start to the season which didnt happen this year. When you look back at all that that then it's easy to look back in a sort of misty eyed awe, but as I said we were dreadful in the league from the 0-1 Hibs game at Fir Park in late October 2017 and we haven't really picked up since.

The battling style Robinson promoted last year was the typical sort of performance that wins cup games and nobody cares much about how it looks so long as we get to finals.

But it doesn't win league games because it is a high energy game that can't be sustained and teams soon cotton on to how to defuse it.
