When you see how close Palace came

to getting a result against Liverpool it makes you think about having a go at the bigger clubs.

With the rub of the green it could have been a different result for Palace.

Palace are in an identical position to us in all aspects, i.e. wins, goals and points and yet Liverpool scored four against both of us but Palace's difference was only one goal and it easily could have been equal.

Going back to my opening sentence I would also quote our first half positions against Manure, Chelski and Spurs. Three strong attacking teams.

We haven't got the players to do it, Pat. Up front they've got Townsend, Ayew and Zaha who are streets ahead of anyone we've got.

We have if they would get their fingers out and do what they were bought to do. Just as we were doing it against Manure first half so it is possible.

    And we have Schar.

They also have the best fullback pairing in the game with Van Arnholt and Wan Bissaka.

But I love the sentiment Pat. Really want the days back when we went toe to toe with these teams. We could maybe do it once or twice a season as a shock tactic but thats it.

The three players you quote this season have 8 goals between them, Townsend 4, Zaha 3 and Ayew 1

Our top three have 11 goals between them, Rondon 5, Clark 3 and Perez 3

    Palace Won 6, drawn 4, lost 13, 22 points
    N/c Utd Won 5 drawn 6, lost 12, 21 points

Not much difference in either set of stats.

Palace have a squad light years better than ours.... we have a better manager, one who protects his squad from hiding by setting them up correctly for games.

As you said palace can score 3 at city and 3 at liverpool, yet they are 1 point above us....

    Because their manager is crap.

We won't see a Newcastle team play like that v a big team .. We will have 9 at the back and play for a 2-0 defeat .. Lowest goals against is worth a point in theory .

True enough, Pat, but, as Mick points out, they have a crap manager and we have Rafa.

Maybe Ayew is closer to the standard of, say, Ritchie, but certainly Zaha and Townsend can be game changers-especially Zaha-and I don't think any of our players are capable of that.

    Apart from Atsu, obviously....

Sorry, had to mention him...he is absolute dogshite.

Well that crap manager also managed Switzerland, Finland, Liverpool, Inter Milan and England so he has a C.V. of sorts.

As well as that his dad was a Toon fan.

Difference with us and Palace is that they have a hell of a lot more pace in their side than ours. They can hit the likes of Liverpool on the break better than we ever could. The pace in our team wouldnt even get us to the half way line.
