The big problem we had last time we went up to the Championship is that the club were too short sighted. The talent we had such as Hourihane and Winnall was emerging and they were always likely to leave if we did well at that level. We should have got them to sign improved deals in the days after promotion with the understanding that they would be paid more in the short term - but we wouldn't stand in their way. They would have both left regardless but we would have got increased fees. If they were old "has-beens" then I can see the logic in not putting them on higher wages, but they weren't and we should have invested in them short term for longer term gain. The club seems to have got a bit more savvy with contracts running down but we still haven't invested a decent amount of the money received in transfers back into the squad. I don't see how anyone could argue otherwise on that one . . .
